In my case the eclipse crash was somehow related to the new Indicator Applet 
Application Menu. I tried it some weeks ago and removed the applet from my 
panel short time after (as it doesn't integrate well with eclipse yet). 
Please check if eclipse start if you readd the applet to some panel.
A workaround for this problem is to start eclipse with UBUNTU_MENUPROXY env var 
set to empty, e.g.
~$ UBUNTU_MENUPROXY="" eclipse
