I did a bit of testing with Tuxguitar in Karmic and found out that the
easiest way to get sound working is to use tuxguitar-jsa. It now uses
Gervill (https://gervill.dev.java.net/) which works fine with OpenJDK.
The patch that I attached makes this the default behaviour.

I have a laptop which has the same Intel 3945ABG controller and it needs
to be manually configured each boot, in another words I need to command

Wohoo! It works, but using virtual packages would certainly make more sense.
I don't know much about Java but I would guess that it needs java2-compiler as
a build dependency and java2-runtime as a general dependency. I'll test how
this works.

That probably wont be necessary, as i suspect that there is a duplicate
of this bug already somewhere. But you mentioned that ubuntu was working
for a few time at first, do you recall changing anything that could have
caused this?

Doh! Posted my own kern.log accidentally, at least that proves that you
can just type /var/log/kern.log to the attachment field to post the
log , if you are running ubuntu.

There seems to be nothing wrong with your hardware.
Have you already removed ubuntu or something like that? Without the log
files debugging becomes quite hard.

Are only the booting and shutdown processes slow or is using ubuntu slow
too?

Try running totem from the command line to see if it shows any error
messages, and see if the system log (System - Administration - System
Log) shows something suspicious.

Upstreams devs reported that this isn't hardcoded by metacity and you
can change it with gconf-editor, but gnome-keybinding-properties doesn't
just know about that, so i changed this bug to affect gnome-control-
center instead of metacity.
