Tried a little bit more and played with some files copying around, and
Thunar crashed. Dmesg says:

So the workaround makes it harder to trigger the bug, but it's still

fixes the problem for me. More precisely, about 10 trials in the last 15
minutes showed no crash. Will try more extensively tomorrow (but am
quite sure the crash is gone).

Well, Thunar is dead. Period. There are a bunch of other replacements
like xfe, nautilus, whatever that just work. There is obviously sparse
interest, if any, in developing thunar. And hey, that's ok, after all it
is free software and times are changing.
So let us all recognize that and move on, t
Just to let you know:
I had a similar bug with Fedora 24 which drove me nuts. Analog output
was always switched back to digital, losing sound. Changing it in
pavucontrol didn't last longer than a few seconds. With the patch from
comment 12, my problem is fixed!
