patch also be applied (thus removing the change) for both lucid and
maverick. Will see how we go.

Had a look at this bug prompted by a request from Alex as I've had some
modest experience with Arduino devices and USB serial interfaces as
well, albiet a long time ago. I _do_not_ consider myself expert in
either however! :)

We have an embargoed CVE (Security patch kernel) waiting to go out - due
to go out later this week.
Once that's done the deck is clear to do a SRU release which will
include the fixes being discussed. Rough ETA for this SRU release is
prior to Christmas - has to sit in proposed per normal policy.

One possible workaround seems to be as follows:
* Install compiz-config-settings-manager (ccsm)
* Run ccsm
* Under the Window Manager options, enable "Put"
* Under the "Put" configuration options, locate "Put to Arbitrary
Viewport"
* For each desired viewport (desktop) assign an appropriate ke
installed compizconfig-settings-manager and ran ccsm (thanks for the
pointer Sebastien!) and confirm gnome compatability is checked.
Will dig into this further as time permits.

Can confirm this behaviour under fresh Jaunty Beta install as reported
by kevmitch as well as on an older Intrepid install:
