But based on your comments it seems quite likely I actually invoked it
as '/dev/sr0 image.iso'. It is common to treat such things the same
whether it's a single '='-separated argument to two separate arguments,

I tried to update the system to replace the nvidia drivers with nouveau,
but that somehow trashed the system, so I rebuilt it from scratch with
nouveau. I'm still getting similar problems; here's an example of
another recently logged problem:

Note: this is tagged as amd64, but it's a GenuineIntel processor. If
I've installed from the wrong image, that may be the problem right
there.

within a few hours of boot. Syslog from what I believe is an example is
