Aha! So I don't know what went wrong. But here is a solution:

Depending on what mic you are using you might have to change the
settings through the menu.

Hi!
My USB mic was working fine. It is a Zoom H2.
Then last week it went chipmonk. I tried comment 80:
gedit $HOME/.pulse/daemon.conf
and put the following line on the file:

default-sample-rate = 16000
save it, and then restart pulseaudio as a user with the following command
But got:

Hi. If you install ubuntu with the erthnernet cable in then there was no
problem. This of course doesn't fix the big for those that can't, but
for those that can I'd reccomend giving it a go.

Hello. I am also very new. I came here to report a bug after following this
