Here are my workarounds for getting indicator icons for the two applications I
care about:
* Pidgin: Go to Preferences > Interface and set "Show system tray icon" to
"Always".
* Liferea: Recompile from official source, which doesn't have the Ubuntu
patches to hide its indicator.
