Workaround: Try to change the font encoding with Fontforge... For me, with some
fonts, like marvosym, this works.
Font Forge > Open Font > Encoding > Set Encoding > Windows ANSI or ISO-8859-1.
Later, you can go File > Generate Fonts and overwrite it.

So, using the installer provided at the repos, the driver version 173.xx fails
too.
Before update the xserver-xorg, the nvidia-glx-173 provided package has no
problems, but after the update, it fails.
This is not a problem with the installer, but with the xserver-xorg-core
package itself.
