This bug just occurred here on Ubuntu 10.10; never seen it before.
Unlike the OP, I shut down the machine every night, so uptime hasn't
even reached 6 hours yet.

I never touched the Software Center - I originally installed Eclipse
through apt-get, and encountered this problem.
Installing eclipse-pde solved this issue.

A passive menu item is probably the best choice. Nag windows make me
highly averse to ever donating, whether or not I'd considered it

Another confirmation for networks. In my case, both suspend and
hibernate were extra slow.
I had to remove auto eth1 - my wireless - from /etc/network/interfaces
and it was fixed immediately.

Problem still exists in Ubuntu 8.04 - Any program that requires a GUI is
unable to run without the export DISPLAY=... line.
