I have a dell vostro 1310 which has no sound/ mic at all unless workaround applied in hardy (which makes sound not 100%). Need to check if still works in new kernel. Has realtek alc268 chip. when clicking on vol control get told can't find gstreamer plugins. Driver needs to be compiled -- N

Can confirm in latest kernel had to compile drivers from realtek website andadd also digital input sources to ALSA in order for all sound to work- this picks up headphone jack and speakers. Mic as yet untested, but think it works from headphone source and onboard.. I followed these instructions
