I have the Intel 855GM in my x300 and I have been unable to play movies
since my upgrade. The movie player freezes the whole system and only a
power reset gets me going again. BUT, I followed the instructions
I have had the same message/problem the last few days. To get running
again I have hold down the power button for 15/20 secs and then reboot.
Latest was when trying to play a video from a memory stick, the broken
pipes message appeared.

I downloaded again to a new disc and it works perfectly.

I burnt the cd and that seemed ok - then when I changed the bios to boot
from the cd, it seemed ok until the above message apeared and the Ubuntu
screen came up with the moving orange bar. This stopped after 3/4mins.
and the screen went black with a flashing cursor, top left.
