i Just got that warning when i try to install 3.1-1.1ubuntu4 and i dont
know much about ubuntu or linux though and i tried sudo apt-get
--reinstall install slocate but it gaves me the same warning

I am using a Acer Laptop (Acer 5583NWXMI, 5580 series) with Intel(R)
PRO/Wireless 3945ABG/BG Network Connection, whic doesn't work.
I have tried #ubuntu on IRC and all ubuntu forums but to no use.

This is easily reproducible in gutsy:
When I disable and reenable a service in gnome tool services-admin, its
priority in runlevel 2 (the runlevel I am using) is changed to 50. This
can cause problems easily, leading to many other repo
I have also had the same problem. I have two soundcards. In feisty, the
sound worked, in gutsy not.
aplay returned following:
ALSA lib confmisc.c:1286:(snd_func_refer) Unable to find definition
'defaults.pcm.dmix.device'
ALSA lib conf.c:3510:(_snd_config_evaluate) function snd_func_refer returne
I have had also this problem after upgrade to gutsy. I thought that HAL
uses DBUS subsystem and this dependency could cause problems.
Command runlevel told me that I am in runlevel 2. So I checked my
/etc/rc2.d directory: there was a link called S12hal, but S50dbus! After
I renamed the latter to S
forced to return to a MS Windows computer (from whence I came)

configuration files so if one is corrupted, the supplied GUI tools are suspect.
My computer appears to be unusable at this point.
