Using the backported driver has appears to have fix my issues. My network has
been stable with the driver for the past 24 hrs.
I installed the linux-backports-modules-net-oneiric-generic metapackage
It seems to me this would be a better practice so your network doesn't break
every kernel upgrade.

r8169 driver doesn't play

Kernel - 3.0.0-15-generic
By default Ubuntu selects the r8169 driver for my network adapter. To
some extent it works but it is hardly useable. Transfer speeds are very
low and often connections time out. Packet loss is through the roof.
This went away for me once the nvidia-glx-177 drivers properly
installed.

I can't tell if the version I'm running is the one with the fix or not.
However, jockey crashes every time I turn my computer on at the moment.
