After Googling around I wonder whether the problem might be in the "hp_wmi"
module? It might be responsible for handling those shortcuts for brightness,

I'm running on kernel 4.5rc5 (for wifi and touchpad support) with intel
card only (nvidia 960m turned off) and the battery usage is not so
dramatic. You should try if it helps you too.

I can confirm that the bug is fixed. I am running ubuntu 11.10 upgraded from
11.04 and was experiencing it as others (very annoying).

The reinstall worked after a reboot and so did amarok. The package
wasn't downloaded, the version used for reinstalling was the one
downloaded previously. Very weird.
