I think I figured out the problem. Soon after I upgraded to Kubuntu
8.04, I noticed that in Adept the check boxes for "Pre-released updates"
and "Unsupported updates" were checked. I didn't want that, so I

Bugs,
Public bug reported:
When creating an XmlDocument object and calling its Load method, I
sometimes get a segmentation fault.
It occurs from a call that happens very soon after program execution
begins, before program input has much effect. If I try to run my program
and I get a segfault, I can rep
I forgot to mention I'm running the 64-bit version of Ubuntu 8.04. (So
the 32-bit repository may have the correct packages.)

VirtualBox kernel module is outdated
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/22
Public bug reported:
Upgrading from Ubuntu 7.10 to Ubuntu 8.04 gave me the 2.6.24-16 and
2.6.24-17 kernels (with 2.6.24-17 selected as the default in Grub). The
latest VirtualBox kernel module available in the repository is for the
2.6.24-16 kernel. When trying to start a virtual machine while the
The problem for me was libGL.so was missing. For some reason,
uninstalling the ATI driver took out this file. I got it back by
reinstalling every package with "mesa" in the name.
So I think the only bug I encountered (besides libGL.so being removed)
is that the lock session feature (at least in KD
I started experiencing this yesterday under Kubuntu 7.10 x86-64, after
once again trying (and failing) to get the fglrx drivers working with my
Radeon HD 3870. Even though I replaced xorg.conf with a backup and
restarted multiple times, I am now completely unable to lock session.

For me, DPMS was enabled by default. I never did anything to turn DPMS
on. I did a fresh install of Kubuntu, booted into it, and immediately
the screen was going blank every few minutes (when no input received).

comment, I'd also like to voice my opinion.
Thank you so much for making this change, and for not caving in under
pressure to reverse it. Standards are extremely important to me.

Timo: Prevent what from happening? You said earlier, "The bug is in
g-p-m which blanks the screen even though the screensaver is disabled."
But now you're saying the source of this is somewhere else.

I've been having this problem with Kubuntu, on two different computers,
and I've never even had gnome-power-manager installed. I've also never
had gnome-screensaver or xscreensaver installed. Unless an additional
bug in KDE is producing the same problem, you are looking in the wrong
place.

I'm having this problem on Kubuntu 7.10. I have an Nvidia graphics card
and I'm not running Compiz (just KWin). I don't even have gnome-
screensaver or xscreensaver installed. This issue has been receiving
attention on the forums for a while and is still receiving attention.

I create a bug for this at OpenOffice.org, and they decided this was a problem
in Ubuntu's build.

IMO, bugs introduced by Ubuntu (or Debian) should be given special
priority. It looks very bad when a distro introduces bugs, especially in

It looks like QtParted has been abandoned. SourceForge shows there
hasn't been a release since 2005-08-12. If Ubuntu continues to support
this program, it should try to find somebody to take over the project.
It isn't acceptable to knowingly include software that has had major
bugs for years.
