upon login, shows corrupt

when i login, the graphics appear to change modes to a higher
resolution; the login screen becomes smaller and random images and noise

-The "Detect Displays" button in the "Displays" window shows "Built-in Display"
and "Samsung Electric Company 27" both in the top-left corner of the left
monitor, overlapping each other.
-I, if I remember correctly, if I do not use xrandr to nullify the panning,

This clearly shows the issue. The first monitor res should be 1920 wide,
not 3520. Any suggestions on how to fix it?

Since upgrading from Ubuntu 15.10 to 16.04, Unity is now shown across
both my monitors in a hard to use manner: unity dialogues, such as the
log-out and shutdown popups, are displayed centered between both
monitors, so the left half is on one monitor, and the right half on
I found the cause and solution. The ~/.cache/thumbnails directory was
for some unknown reason not owned by my user. I fixed that and now
nautilus appears to be behaving normally. Apparently is was caught in a
loop trying to update thumbnails but could not.

high cpu usage when idle

If I leave nautilus open to my home folder or most any folder, it uses
25% of the cpu according to top. I've not had it open most of the time,
but the cpu time is at 29:05 with a system up time of 17:30:21. That is
more than twice the cpu time of Xorg and more than any other

This makes it impossible to copy and paste. I have not tried any other
webapps.
Expected behavior: holding down the left mouse button and swiping over text
should select the text.
