me a several weeks, since I have to clone the primary install first, as I am
not going to risk that my only work computer becomes unusable. To do so, I have
to read and learn how to do the cloning

I have searched now through all files in /var/log, including apport.*. However,
there is no information about the previous kernel/hardware enablement stack.
Sorry, that I am no help here.
A problem possible related to this bug is that when the laptop is
awaking from suspend

how I can get this information ? Would I find this in one of the files in
/var/log ?

a few days ago my Ubuntu 14.04. on a Dell Latitude Laptop wanted me update the
Hardware Enablement Stack. I did this, but from then on I had this bug
