Looks like it's a maximus issue.
This workaround worked for me:
1) Open CompizConfig Settings Manager (compizconfig-settings-manager)
2) Go to Window Decoration Plugin (under Effects)
3) On the "Decoration windows" field, replace "any" with "!state=maxvert"
(without the quotes)

I think this bug could be related to a failure in handling the Games
sub-categories (as described in http://library.gnome.org/devel/menu-spec
/#category-registry in Additional Categories table). Karmic's gnome-menu
comes with Games-Logic sub-category enabled (check Alt+F1). If you

Same issue here with Karmic beta (linux 2.6.31-11-generic) on HP Mini
110-1030NR.
I could fix it following the steps described in:
http://art.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=8008760
No Internet access nor "live CD" needed. Just a couple of commands on
the terminal.

Same issue here on Karmic beta.
It makes little sense to display launchers for filesystems if nothing
happens when you click on them. It's confusing and nonpractical,
