The issue seems to have returned with an update in 16.04 in mid-
november. I will continue to peruse the above solutions and see if
there's anything I have not tried yet but so far no joy. OpenLDAP +
autofs still requires a restart of autofs.

Currently running on 12.04LTS. All of a sudden this is happening.
Seems to be related to a bad *.remmina file? any ideas how I could
chase this down?
Or is there a newer version with this issue resolved in PPA? I am aware
that PPA's are outside of the base distro. I need a solution.

In my case the libnss-ldapd appears to have fixed the problem... Now I
need to investigate a bit more. it also removed nscd and replaced with
nslcd. From what I'm reading so far libnss-ldapd is more robust and
causes fewer issues. Would be curious if anyone else's experience is
similar.

I have a similar issue, in my case it is related to ldap automount maps.
We ran into this same issue in 10.04 and ended up adding a condition in
the autofs upstart script to wait for a network connection, as well as
in the gdm (now lightdm) upstart script.
