@hui - I had the linux-firmware at the latest in the standard upgrades.
I've just upgraded to updates-proposed (linux-firmware 1.183.5), but it
still doesn't work:

I have the same problem on a Dell Inspiron 7590 (see #1868465). Suspend
was also not properly working. The proposed kernel 5.3.0-43 on Eoan does
not fix the missing sound device bug for me.

Thanks for the diagnosis. This also happens for me on a desktop system
with a Gigabyte GeForce RTX 2060 Gaming OC Pro 6G graphics card (rev
2.0), on a Gigabyte Z370P D3 motherboard. Blacklisting stops the
problem.

Happens on my system too (18.04 with latest updates). Works fine in
Windows 7. Motherboard is a Z370P D3. I've also tried a USB wifi adapter
which had the same problem. A laptop also running Ubuntu 18.04 has no
problem.

Also an issue for my old Seagate ST3500641AS in Ubuntu Bionic 18.04.

If you installed veusz from source, you may have some old veusz python
extension libraries installed which are being loaded instead of the ones
in the package. Veusz includles qtloops.so, which is built against sip.
Try running
find / -name qtloops.so

My Fujitsu P7010 keeps pumping out these messages:

I've built PyQt-4.3 and sip-4.7 by hand (against the same libqt4), and
the test program works. A C++ conversion of the program also works. It
looks like PyQt4/sip need updating in Ubuntu.
