John, I followed a process similar to your instructions and successfully
got one system up and functional (that is , logging in via GUI).
Thanks for your insight and I will attempt the second system later.

Hello John, thanks for your response. I used the "Terminal Mode" update
on two different DELL systems and encountered the problem on both
systems. (Although, I don't recall using the "update-manager -d"
option.) I might be forced to rollback as well. However, I would like
to see a resolution th

after the upgrade. For as long as I did not log out of the GUI
everything was working great. After rebooting, any attempt to login
resulted in a flash and an immediate "invalid username/password"
response

I really would like to see more importance place on this bug as it
prevents any logins to the GUI under UNITY. Without access to the
Desktop ... there is not much else to do ... but turn the PC off.
