Hi Evan,
First of all, I'm a newbie, so don't expect much in the area of
troubleshooting or knowing what to look for.
Thanks for the message and suggestions. This happened months ago,
and I've forgotten the details -- sorry. As best I can recall, I
started the installation, got the e

Great to hear from you Brian. I was hoping that you hadn't gotten
tired of my newbie questions and bailed out on me.
Aha!!! Secret comment-line instructions, eh? Only secret to the
extent that I don't read the instructions, only plunge blindly ahead

Sorry, I replied to the wrong person, ME!Will try again.
OK. Please remember that you're dealing with a Linux newbie, so
don't "assume" that I know much about working in the Linux world.
First of all, I have now booted Feisty with "irqpoll" added to the
correct kernel boot
I see no change in the "symptoms" after I've added "irqpoll" to the
end of the kernel line, assuming I've added it at the right place. It
appears that the kernel line takes up 2 lines, and I added irqpoll to
the end of the second line. Since you didn't say to do so, I didn't run

Hi again Brian,
Attached are the outputs of the lspci -vvnn and dmesg commands.
The output of the asoundconf list command is: V8235.
I tried 2 other things today. I borrowed a HDD, installed it, and
let Feisty take all of its 40GB to install itself in. I couldn't see
how that w
Hi Brian,
First of all, many thanks for the response.
I'll get the outputs to you as quickly as I can. Right now I'm having
problems with my HDD caddy and carriers, apparently caused by my
swapping out HDDs today -- put the original HDD back in and now the
system doesn't "see" i
