Luckily, I still have kernel 4.10.0-19.21 from U17.04 available and it
works ok with it in U17.10, which could suggest it is a kernel issue
rather the user-space one.
Let me know if you need additional info or testing other kernel
versions. I can live with 4.10.0-19.21 for now, but I'd rather

ok, well a definite way around this is to re-install everything.
Did you install same version of the system (11.04)? It seems the
LibreOffice plugin might have stored some bad configuration that
caused the issue. Did you tried to reinstall/purge the plugin before
re-installation of whole system?

Compiz has configuration option called Focus prevention level (run ccsm
→ General options → Focus Raise Behavior → Focus Prevention Level). It
