I have a similar problem with an ASUS centrino laptop.

Wireless networks are scanned OK and appear in NetworkManager, but
trying to connect to my AP (using WPA) doesn't work (no green lights
whatsoever, and the authentication dialog keeps reapearing). It's a
fresh install, made a few hours ago, with all the updates (installed
using a wired connection).

The old install (Ubuntu, don't remember which release), initialy worked
perfectly for a long while, but stopped working (eventualy after an
update) and got shelfed until this clean install.

The laptop is a dual boot machine, and Windows access is working OK.
