but can the newest driver work with 4XXX Radeon cards?
I hope the fix makes it to fglrx or there's a patch to the ATI drivers
that enables this to work. Pretty annoying to have to rs my HTPC very
time I go to view something.

Well this sucks for those of us with a not too old HD 4000 series card
as 12.6 is not compatible. I'm going to try going through older drivers.
Perhaps this was a regression in ATI drivers and not present in one of
the older versions.

I was able to play around with hda analyzer and confirm pretty much the
same thing as comment #3 describes.
For my laptop, rear is for top speakers on Node 0x14, front is bottom
speakers on Node 0x13,
On my system (dv6tqe), Node 0x0f defaults to output selector 0x14 which
seems correct, however N

I do not get any out put with this script. i have Python 2.7.3
installed.
If it try to run without sudo and get a permission error, but running the
script with sudo seems to not do anything..
