An easy way to see the effect is to open gedit (or some graphical text

On Ubuntu I think the easiest way to fix this problem, both workaround
and packaged as a solution, is to make a simple script in
/etc/profile.d/ . I called mine set_term.sh (must end in .sh). The file
need only have in it
export TERM=xterm

Well, I haven't used hardy in some months (current desktop runs
intrepid-amd64), but I whipped up a hardy-i386 chroot install to test,
and among the other output from 'apt-get -s install compiz-kde' I got
this:

Sorry for so many quick posts. I can say from the synaptic list that
konqueror-nsplugins is listed as suggests. Is it possible that somehow I
have some setting somewhere set to install all suggests? If so, where is
that setting.
