This does the same for me with Geforce 7300 LE. Also the console
(Ctrl+Alt+F1-7) is similarly corrupted. So I think it maybe a nvidia
driver issue, rather Plymouth.

Just found out some bad on the 173 driver: Using Ctrl+Alt+F1-7 to get
console gives white screen plus garbled black text/chars. Then returning
to X screen on F8, the screen is badly corrupted. The sidebar and
notification area is ok, but the main wallpaper is random pixels.

I think Bug #728745 may be a duplicate of this. The desktop *appears* to
be unresponsive, but actually is just hiding the response.

Ok, yes it was updated but it took several update attempts as it kept
complaining about missing dependencies. Maybe something got borked by
the beta updates. Anyway I started from scratch using the 11.04 release
version, which I am writing from. Here is my experience:-

I cannot even get the nvidia drivers to work on 11.04. But have tried
the v86d fix. It is functional, but the largest mode I am allowed is
1280 x 1024 (on a 1680 x 1050 monitor). The result is a logo thats
still a bit fuzzy, and the background is sort of chequered stripes, with
a gap for the Ubunt
I have a GeForce 7300 LE and have exactly the same issue. I also get
random black and white blocks and garbled characters during boot up. I
tried the nvidia-173 driver, but this was worse for me. With the 173
driver I get the same black and white garbled stuff on the login screen
too. Also, a resta
I have installed the latest updates still don't see any difference on my
nvidia geforce 7300. It just produces and unresponsive desktop. Its been
this way since alpha3.

Similar experience here on natty beta 2, Geforce 7300 LE, generic-pae
kernel. I just used the nvidia driver that jockey-gtk offered, and then
you get black and white video garbage during boot, then get half a
loaded desktop that is frozen. The mouse moves, and you can ctrl+alt+del
to shut it down,
I waste time due to this bug every day at work. But I have just found a
kind of work around. If you 'forward' or 'reply' to the email that you
want to copy from, and then copy from that forward/reply window, then it
does not have the html formatting on :-)

To me, the point is this. Canonical draw attention to this new feature
by advertising it as an improvement. Then after the first boot, the user
is *prompted*, by the system, to install the nvidia drivers. Then it
goes all crappy. I just look away while its booting :-\

Yes this bug affects me too. While working in the guest, the host screen
saver is inhibited (by vmware) which is correct, but it seems that the
screensaver is unaware of any activity in the guest. So as soon as
according to the Ubuntu 10.10 Release notes, this is currently broken
and only shows text :-(
