OK, I installed Fontforge and did some checking. All of the faces I
cited do have all four standard fonts (regular, italic, bold, bold-
italic). However, they all have exactly the same number of glyphs for
each of the four fonts.

and Sans, FreeSans and FreeSerif, Liberation Sans and Serif, Linux

Please look at your results for Liberation again. I just tried both Sans
and Serif and the characters did not drop out. However, the three glyphs
(026A, 0361 and 0283) changed to a different font when I applied bold.

First, it's rated medium because it doesn't affect very many of us.
Another reason it's not rated higher is because there is a workaround.
The workaround is to edit the /boot/grub/menu.lst file. Add "noapic
acpi=off" to the end of the root line. You can do this while booting
