I can confirm the same thing as the previous two commenters. After
applying updates, completely unable to get into the appearance settings
applet.

I have the same error under the same conditions. Additionally, while setting
up a swap partition to try allowing for hibernation, I received this error when
executing "swapon -a":
# swapon -a
swapon: /dev/mapper/cryptswap1: stat failed: No such file or directory

This is not a duplicate, the crash came from a different point in the install
(according to the syslog). The kernel had a problem occur:
