Tested on lucid with different hardware (old laptop gone)
New laptop has ATI Technologies Inc Radeon Mobility M7 LW [Radeon
Mobility 7500], which still uses the ati radeon driver.
Multiple monitors appears to work fine with this hardware in lucid.

After using "Switch User" to switch to another user, the system will
freeze sometime (variable) after logging in the 2nd user.
The only thing I see in the logs is the last lines of Xorg.1.log:

Using gnome-display-properties, I configure my monitor setup to have the
laptop screen on the left and the attached external monitor on the
right.
The external monitor does not receive a signal in this configuration.
Repeated presses of Fn+F10 (thi
lcdproc 0.5.3 should fix this "bug." There has been some discussion on
the lcdproc-devel list of removing some of the debian scripts from the
official release.
I have no idea if this is important to Ubuntu/Debian packagers or not.

Looks like lcdproc 0.5.3 will include support for some of the SoundGraph
iMON LCDs. You can check the current lcdproc CVS if interested.

It's not that random - rhythmbox crashes at the end of a track. Which
track & how many tracks played until the crash still appears to be
random.

Rhythmbox randomly crashes while listening to a CD.
Using Ubuntu 8.10 and Rhythmbox 0.11.6.

Having disabled and uninstalled pulseaudio, I still get audio hiccups,
which didn't occur with previous versions of ubuntu.
At best, removing pulseaudio reduced the number of glitches, but they
still occur, and they make listening to anything via streaming
impossible.

Even uninstalling pulseaudio didn't get things going that great.
The audio is still very jerky with any level of system load.
Running 2.6.28-11-generic kernel w/o pulse audio. Stock jaunty alsa.

Uninstalling pulse-audio is the only thing that's really worked for me:
sudo apt-get remove libpulse-browse0 libpulse-mainloop-glib0
libpulsecore9 padevchooser paman paprefs pavucontrol pavumeter
pulseaudio pulseaudio-esound-compat pulseaudio-module-gconf pulseaudio-
module-hal pulseaudio-module-x
I'd call it stuttering rather than crackling, but I'm getting similar on
a fresh Jaunty install.
for each stutter, pulseaudio debug gives:

I get the same with 32-bit version of 8.10.
Rhythmbox debug messages attached.
As described, the crash occurs when trying to play the stream for the
first time after a log in. After killing rhythmbox and restarting, the
stream plays normally.

2nd note: might want to look carefully at the changes to LCDd.conf in
the above patch. The only section that's really needed is the [imonlcd]
section, the addition of imonlcd to the "The following drivers are
supported:" section, and of couse, Driver=imonlcd to use this driver.

It should provide "native" support for the :0038 device, in addition to
the original :ffdc device.
The updated patch should also relieve the need to tweak RENDER_FREQ, as
its stability should be improved.
