A better workaround than rebuilding the kernel is to blacklist the uas
module in /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf

Using Ubuntu 12.10, with kernel 3.5.0-18-generic (from package
linux-image-3.5.0-18-generic, version 3.5.0-18.29
) when I connect an Iomega eGo USB 3 external hard drive to a USB 3 port, the
kernel panics after a few seconds.
WORKAROUND: Add in
After flashing the BIOS update, the problem seems to have gone away.
