I can confirm with the latest kernel, and it seems to be an issue with the free radeon driver as when switching to fglrx there are no issues. Note it's the CPU fan not the GPU fan that's running hot. Graphics card is RadeonHD 6970 kernel is Linux Prime 3.0.0-12-generic #20-Ubuntu SMP Fri Oct 7
