I can confirm this bug for Ubuntu server 16.04.3 AMD64. The problem
seems to be related to the drive size or/and the interface. grub-install
fails with two 2 TB Samsung 960 Pro m2 SSDs. With Intel 180 GB SATA
SSDs, it works just fine. Mainboard: ASUS Prime X399-A
** Changed in: grub-installer
FYI, there are 2 Debian Boot CDs with 32 bit UEFI support:
http://cdimage.debian.org/cdimage/unofficial/efi-development/upload4/
debian-wheezy-i386-efi-test4.iso and debian-wheezy-amd64-i386-MA-efi-
test4.iso will usually boot just fine on 32 bit UEFI machines that have
no legacy mode. Maybe
I can confirm that the new Odys Wintab 10 is also affected. Link to the

Thomas Lenarz: I really strongly advise you to update your BIOS first.
Manufacturers tend to fix things without neccessarily mentioning it in
the changelog. For example, on my HP nx7400, Speedstep didn't work in

@Thomas Lenarz: Hmm.. So there seems to be some improvement with the 3.4
kernel, but no final fix. In the meantime, RC4 is out, maybe you want to give
it a try:

and install it (simply double click on the file and follow the instructions).
Afterwards, reboot and check if the problem persists.
aspera, could you please try the 3.4 mainline kernel (see #161) and
report if it still crashes?

OK, after some more testing, I am sorry to say that the problem still
occurs, even with 3.3-rc7.

- Change line 82 in /lib/hdparm/hdparm-functions to hdparm_set_option

- Adjust the global spindown time in /etc/hdparm.conf to your needs.

The manpage is still inconsistent in Ubuntu 12.04 beta.
- APM is considered off for both -B 255 and -B 254
- When -S is set, the hard drive will spin down, no matter what APM
