I started having a problem like this (Title Bar messes up when hovering
the buttons) after upgrading my nvidia drivers to 173.14.05. It only
happens themes using the "Human" window borders; I already have the fix
committed here but it doesn't seem to help. Also tried Compiz 0.7.6
without any luck.

I'm running Hardy, but this also happened on a previous Hardy upgrade
from Gutsy (which pushed me to make a fresh Hardy install)
After leaving an locked open session with the main user, if another user
logs in, it enters its session normally until it
Actually I just found out that the problem is not related to the second user
because I locked my session, pressed "Change User" in the locked screen, took
me to GDM and it restarted GDM while killing my session.
I've also noticed that there were two GDM instances running in tty9 and tty10,
