Update: I managed to revert my kernel to 4.15.0-70-generic through the
bootloader menu that appears at the start of my laptop, and my touchpad
has started working again. I'll keep using this version until a stable
fix is pushed

Same problem here; nothing more than the blinking cursor. Changing to
another terminal via ctrl+alt+F1 first brings up the usual login. Then
everything freezes, even before being able to enter the first letter.
Not sure whether evince is responsible for this. Rather not, since same

start one instance of evince (might be every other program), then
hibernate: everything works as supposed.
Hibernation stops working if you start more programs, like
firefox+ooo+gimp and some other memory hungry ones.
