Updating the BIOS from version A14 to A20 fixes this, but introduces bug
#539477 (which seems to not be an actual linux bug, but intended
behaviour by Dell).

Dell Latitude E6400 Fn-F8 (display toggle) generates duplicate events

Oh boy. I don't think this is a linux bug, this is intentional (Dell's
intention).
I just did a BIOS update on my Dell Latitude E6400 from version A14 to
A20. Version A20 doesn't generate keycode 227 anymore (as it did with
A14), it generates super-p (windows key + p). Super-p ("p" as in

Public bug reported:
The backlight of the laptop display doesn't come back on after closing
and opening the lid on a Dell Latitude E6400.
This was originally reported as bug #488328 and fixed in kernel
2.6.32-15 (using http://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/intel-
gfx/2010-February/005902.html), b
Fixing bug #535348 should provide correct behaviour. gsd should
reconfigure the outputs after the lid was closed (all outputs are
disconnected on lid-close) and again after it was opened (LVDS1
reconnected).

I suspect that the following is happening:
- lid close causes a (fake) fn-f8 keypress (display toggle on the Dell Latitude
E6400, gsd calls it fn-f7), gsd reconfigures outputs (all outputs off)
- lid open causes another (fake) fn-f8 keypress, gsd reconfigures outputs (LVDS
on)
So, for one lid c
This is the output of "gnome-settings-daemon --no-daemon --debug",
started with an open lid. I closed the lid once and opened it again.

Also working in -15, but broken again in -16. The display stays off,
only a vt switch turns it back on.

Nicolò, is this fixed for you?
I am still encountering this problem with kernel 2.6.32-16.25. The kernel from
Chase Douglas fixes the issue, the current kernel in lucid does not.
