The Option Icon 225 device (UMTS/EDGE modem) worked out of the box, but only
until I shut down or suspend the system.
The device is still recognized, the configured connection is available, but it
tries to connect for a long time

Hello,
for me, option icon 225 usb modem works sometimes. In Jaunty, you had to
connect twice for it to work quite reliably.
with karmic it worked directly after configuration of the network
manager. later it stopped working.
dmesg gave a modem-manager segfault.

you have to build wdfs and move it to the PATH, e.g. usr/local/bin
use:
wget http://noedler.de/projekte/wdfs/wdfs-1.4.2.tar.gz

sudo make install
cd src
sudo cp wdfs /usr/local/bin
that did it for me!
