Same here. I'm using AMD 6750xt and cpu is AMD 5800x. It's neither old or the newest one. This has never happened to me before on Arch or even Ubuntu. I thought I did something wrong on Kubuntu and somehow Grub had a problem but I couldn't find exactly what. I'll try doing what you did and hopefully... fix the problem.
