As mentioned by Joe Breu, this bug has significant impact on stability
of OpenStack services on Precise and the patch is absent on this
release.

Hello,
There is a patch that came into Debian Unstable fixing the HAL dependency
(using upower instead).

From my own experience I can say it's doing pretty well.
Is there any other reason to call battstat-applet obsolete and buggy
... And it's also in stable now.

After many tests I have develeped a workaround. It's ugly, but it works. I use
TPB only for OSD and I wanted it to start with GNOME on Jaunty.
The workaround is to create a script that starts tpb -d (or /etc/init.d/tpb
start), call it Default and place it in /etc/gdm/PostLogin. GDM processes
