Oh, I'd forgotten to mention that I'm using 16.04 Beta 2.

Same situation on my mid-2012 MacBook Pro; it never connects, even after
the network information is entered using the dialog, or using ifconfig
and ifup to activate.
One possibility is the change to cryptic device names since 15.04;
perhaps sections of network-manager are still unaware of the chan
Oops...I mentioned 256MB of shared graphics RAM, when the value is

more than 384MB (VIsta).

I hadn't made any customizations since copying back the standard
xorg.conf before activating the new driver module, so there may not be
any useful information contained here. Nevertheless, I'm including a
copy of xorg.conf as well.

The previous attachment was Xorg.0.log.old, from when the problem
occurred, I'd switched to GDM after that. This attachment is from lspci

KDM Causes Xorg to Crash in Intrepid
https://bugs.launchpad.net
Update:
This problem apparently can't be solved by updating the graphics driver;
it occurs at nearly every boot now. I'm using nvidia-glx-180 and had to
switch back to GDM as my login manager.
I'll attach Xorg.log, along with the output of lspci -vvnn.

Addendum:
It had only been a few short months ago that I couldn't get nvidia-
glx-180 to work...It does now, though.

An update to this issue:
I had just installed nvidia-glx-180 and reconfigured the kdm package to
use kdm again (two days ago.) Since then, the problem hasn't recurred,
and many of the compositing issues have gone away.
This appears to simply be a buggy driver issue, solved by an update.

KDM
Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: kdm
I've had to switch to GDM instead of KDE4's KDM, since it tends to crash
Xorg before login. This crash causes "bulletproof X" to default to low-
graphics mode after server restart, and occurs in both the KDE 4.1 and
4.2 versions. GDM still works flawl

After enabling desktop window effects in Feisty (yes, I realize this is
still an alpha) under GNOME, the wobbling effects work nicely and
[somewhat] smoothly, but I have to minimize the file manager and restore
it to view contents
