Rick seems to have cured it.
I installed 9.10 Alpha 6 from CD. Grub booted the system but I could
not boot into the new system it continued to read out of range .
I got to reboot into new system but no luck . I did not think of the
key shift.

freezes in home built AMD 64 computer, if 2 restarts or more mouse
pointer unfreezes , this seems to be non specific to any computer type ,

My apologies it was the 32 bit computer which evetually read(after about
5 installs ) that Ubuntu was working in low graphics mode it installed
in the 64 bit computer OK beside the 32bit computer .
