I just looked into a friend who has the exact same issue and this can be determined: It's not caused soley by nvidia since he has intel drivers ( xserver-xorg-video-intel, Version: 2:2.4.1-1ubuntu10.3) and he's affected. also I have had this on several versions of nvidia drivers, up to 180.35.
