@Michael Gilbert: I just did a apt-get update apt-get install xpdf
and the resulting xpdf still core dumps. Am I missing something?
$ xpdf fu.pdf
Segmentation fault (core dumped)
$ gdb xpdf
[...]
(gdb) run
