set the bios to discrete only, I get an HDMI signal. If I set the bios
option to hybrid, I can use prime-select to switch between intel and
nvidia but in both cases I cannot use HDMI anymore and in both cases

@Alberto: Thanks a lot for your help! There is no such setting in the
BIOS of the Thinkpad X1 Extreme. I can either select discrete only or
hybrid cards. I was finally able to get prime-select to switch to intel
but the rate remains at like 20W which is essentially the same as using
the nvidia card

My Macbook Pro 11.3 has Kernel 3.13. When the screen freezes, sound
(e.g., skype) still works and I can move the mouse but not click.
I 'solve' this by going to the terminal and restarting lightdm:

I think I may have the same problem running a 13.10 qemu-kvm host with 8
virtual machines. As far as I can see only two VMs seem to have the
problem. All of them use em1: macvtap as source device and a bridge as
source mode. After reading many posts here, I changed from virtio to
rtl8139 as a devi

remove libmoon, all realplayer related files, and flash. then i
installed the adobe flash alpha for 64bit and now it works. reinstalling

I updated to jaunty yesterday and want to report on wifi problems.
running newer atheros chips with ubuntu was always difficult but IMO
intrepid and ath9k solved these kind of issues more or less.
surprisingly they are back in jaunty (rc1) now. my connection is very
weak

it is broken and the only way to control backlight is to do it in the

no, i have a similar problem since some days running 8.04 native on my
macbook pro (santa rosa). i am using the wireless workaround from the

working stable for some month but now the connection is going down many

since some days i have a similar problem running 8.04 native on my
macbook pro (santa rosa). i am using the wireless workaround from the
wiki: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/MacBookPro#Wireless and it was
working stable for some month but now the connection is going down many
times per hour. a r
rachel, to allow for the specific touchpad scrolling etc i had to
replace the driver to vmmouse. i used the generic kernel - maybe this is
the problem. i my case hdd access is slow and the system is sluggish
(compared to a parallels installation with 512mb ram). for instance if
you run sidux from a
rachel: gutsy does not work with parallels virtualization (you have to
install it as solaris and with not more than 512Mb RAM). fusion works
out of the box but is really slow (also with activated vt-x / vmi and
1GB RAM). the fusion tools do not recognize xserver 1.3 but you can add

i updated to thunderbird 2 at the same time, so here is what i did:
download http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/thunderbird/ thunderbird2 and
unzip it. copy the content (!) of the folder to your home into
./mozilla-thunderbird. open a shell and change to the mozilla-
thunderbird directory. then type in
the problem seems to be caused by root permissions locking certain
folders in the profile settings of ./mozilla-thunderbird (see workaround
below)

i've done this already yesterday but i still have no idea what's going
on (same for valgrind). here are the last lines before the segmentation
fault. the rest is similar to the sudo run.

okay, it's definitely an issue of privileges. running thunderbird by
sudo works and you don't get the: GLib-GObject-CRITICAL errors or a
Segmentation fault. any idea?

just something in addition to the crash log above. when i remove pref.js
and start thunderbird again i can set up everything (a new profile)
without problems. seems that the error occurs when trying to access or
load mails

i removed all extensions - same problem. next i have deleted the whole
account and set it up again (copied my mail folder into the new account
and also come server settings from pref.js) and it worked but was very
unstable. now it is crashing again several seconds after startup. i have
attached a c
okay, this was probably not a good idea ;-) - from the next restart (of
thunderbird) on you will have no settings and mails anymore. the folders
are still there but not recognized. i used a backup that i made before
but now i have the startup crash again.

okay, the status was changed to "needs info" so here we go:
if you start mozilla-thunderbird using sudo, thunderbird will *not*
crash. i hope that helps.
