read-only, everthing is fine. If I mount it read-write, then the machine
crashes with an Oops when unmounting it.

At least some gd2 images are invalid and cannot be used for the Nagios
statusmap. I found this image to be invalid:
/usr/share/nagios3/htdocs/images/logos/base/ubuntu.gd2
which can be fixed by recreating the gd2 from the png:
pngtogd2 ubuntu.png ubuntu.gd2 4096 2

I had the same problem and I was able to fix it by removing this file:
/etc/bash_completition.d/acroread.sh
which is a link to Acrobat Reader 9:
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root46 2009-09-02 08:52 acroread.sh -
