the pop up window that tells me that a monitor has been connected and
imediately another window that tells me that a monitor has been
disconnected.

I have the same problem with Jeremy. After a clean install of Kubuntu
8.10 the problem remains. There is no flickering but i cannot watch
media files. The video file begins normally and at some random time it
turns blue but the sound continues.

I can confirm this bug. I noticed that if I open a video of youtube with
Firefox and later open the same video with Konqueror it is displayed
correctly.

After upgrading from Kubuntu 8.04 with KDE4 to 8.10 the system detects
that a monitor has been disconnected when there isn't one. A window pops
asking me if I wish to run the configuration tool to adjust the monitor
setup or to ignore it.
