I managed to fix it simply by reinstall -- 'sudo apt-get remove
gnome-shell-extension-ubuntu-dock' or even better 'sudo apt-get remove
gnome-shell-extensions gnome-shell-extension-ubuntu-dock'.
Other gnome extensions are still impossible to add though, however it may be a
different problem.

I have an Acer Aspire 3003NLMi and I get the same error in dmesg.
However, in Karmic the control of the fan is problematic. Quite often
the fan fails to start up and remains off even when the temperature goes
up above 80 degrees C! It has not been a rare occurrence for my laptop
to power off

i think this should be fixed for 8.04.1 more for Xubuntu than for Ubuntu
because during a Xubuntu installation a total of about 80MB of packages
has to be downloaded and installed. This cannot be disregarded as many
still have bandwidth limitations. and in the absence of an internet

I have just installed the latest Hardy Heron beta and also installed all
available updates via apt.
The problem I am facing is that whenever I play a video file while the
restricted Nvidia driver is enabled (via the restricted

res screen of bulletproof X. had to reconfigure X to use nv to get it to
start properly again. I also tried using Envy to install the driver...
Envy installs the same version as the one installed by restricted
drivers manager
So I've installed Gutsy... seems like the problem has not been solved
despite being triaged. ATM I cannot suspend but hibernate works... which
is some consolation. strange though because it was the other way round
with Edgy... What is everyone else's experience with this problem?

and to think suspend worked well in Dapper and Edgy on my 3003NLMi. I
hope Erik's case was due the fact that it was a daily build, but ideally
at this stage something as key as suspend should be working. anyway,

i also installed the latest kernel i am still getting the same results
ie. failure to resume from suspend. Hibernate is working fine.
A question: is my input helping with the fixing of this bug for my

I would like to confirm/add to this bug. Actually, Suspend on my laptop
worked fine in Dapper and Edgy. In Edgy I had to install the hibernate
and suspend2-userui for it to work. Resuming from hibernate never did
work on my laptop. However, since Feisty, neither suspend nor hibernate
works. I have
