I can confirm the glxgears problems. When disabling vsync in compiz-
config-manager my desktop experience is extremely choppy, glxgears
though still smooth at 60Hz. When disabling vsync in nvidia-settings
too, the desktop becomes almost unusable slow, also glxgears showing
only like 1 fps but
I am on a Dell Inspiron 1520 Laptop, Core 2 Duo 1.8, Geforce 8600M GT, Nvidia
driver version 270.41.06 from the Ubuntu repos.
Why is the --loose-binding option gone? In compiz 0.8x it always solved a lot

I tried out a few different themes, although most of the time I am using
Divergence IV - A New Hope. Unfortunately, I did not observe any change in
behavior. Only changing the window manager to metacity makes everything a lot
faster. When running gtkperf with compiz it is about 3-4 seconds
I got the same problem on my 8600m GT. It feels like running compiz 0.8x
without the --loose-binding option with the NVIDIA driver. Indeed loose-
binding has been removed in 0.9x, instead there is an explicit --strict-
binding option now.

Found out, that I installed the wrong nvidia driver, the one which does
not contain any 32 bit libraries. To anybody else having problems with
64-bit + wine, remember to chose the installer file that ends with
-pkg2.run when you don't want to use the packages that come with your
distribution.

Hmm I guess it was not a very good idea to change that, I just updated to
1:2.6.6-1ubuntu2 which leads to a login error in icq.
Played around with a few options, like disabling clientLogin, turning on and
off ssl all without any effect...

Actually I want to get the line-in to work not the built-in mic, as the mic
already works...
So I installed the new driver from the ppa, but it didn't change
anything. Also in alsamixer there are no different options.

Is it possible, that it does not work anymore? I installed the latest
nvidia driver with the nvidia installer, not using the package and it
works flawlessly. When I run a game in wine it always says that direct
rendering is not enabled and so on, see terminal output...
using Ubuntu 10.04 64bit

As far as I know EnvyNG does not do anything else than Synaptic. So it
downloads the deb files installs them and thats it, which will never
give you the latest driver.

The youtube plugin does not need to be disabled, it needs to be fixed and it
can't be that difficult as for example minitube also still works. Until this

A few days ago, a video file in my home folder, which was over 300MB large,
became unusable. Nautilus says the file has 0 bytes. When I try to open it,
every player reports, that the stream does not contain any data.
Unfortunately I can not tell when exactly or what the file corruption caused.
Forgot to mention, that I've got actually an Ext3 file system, which I
updated to Ext4 soon after Jaunty was released, with no problems at all.

I can absolutely confirm this bug, using 180.11, running ubuntu 8.10!!
The system hangs completely after or while resuming! Could be only an
issue on Laptop GPUs, as I have got a Geforce 8600m gt. Kernel version
is 2.6.27-11. Everything worked fine before, using the recommended
177.82 driver
