Perhaps this issue should be closed. (Details below.)
I also renamed all my LVM2 volume groups, and all my logical volumes.
(I'd given them poor names during the installation.)
This resulted in Grub2 not finding any partition, and Ubuntu booted into
some initramfs shell with a BusyBoox prompt,
