This Function Wizard bug exists in the 1:3.2.1-6ubuntu1~10.04.1 0 build too,
so I think there is a regression:
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=594120
Maybe it's too far an edge case, but I do use the FW a lot, so I am
reverting to 1:3.2.0-7ubuntu4.1 0 for my daily work.

brightness applet works fine.
The nc6120 is running Lucid and I cannot recreate the crash on it either, but

I've since upgraded to Jaunty on that partition so the version of gnome-
power-manager is 2.23.0-0ubuntu12. The condition still exists. I did
not get a crash this time because I waited for the long pauses to end
before restarting.
This is how I reproduced the issue with the laptop (Compaq NC6120)
A work-around for this issue: downgrade libgcj8-1 to 4.2.3-2ubuntu6
which in turn removes gcj-4.2 and other related files. The newer
version 4.2.4-1ubuntu3 in (hardy-updates) caused pdftk to segfault.
